Cosy wooden home in Rovaniemi, Finland
This cosy wooden home has been completed by Aito Log Houses in Summer 2018. Take a look at this beautiful house and be inspired to build a home of your dreams!
We are particularly proud of this project because it is built in our hometown of Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland. This log house is situated by the picturesque river, just 10 minute drive away from the city centre.
The project is a custom design for one of our trusted customers. Although it is not based the projects from our log house collection, however, it still reminds of the Prestige project, sharing many same of the same floor plan solutions. We would be happy to do a custom design for your house as well! Just contact us!
The house is built for a small family of three. Thus, it has the house area of only 131,5 sq. m. and the living area of 120 sq. m. Here is the floor plan:
The small size is explained by the fact that there is already a second log house structure on the plot. It now works as a sauna house, and it has a spacious living / hobby room, as well as a guest room. This is the view from the terrace of the sauna house.
Building log houses in a residential area has been somewhat challenging because of the building regulations. Thanks to our modern solutions such as the city corner, we are able to place the wooden log house in the city area without any problems. Here is a photo of the city corner solution from the times when the wooden building was under construction:
The log used for the outer walls is 205 x 275 mm squared laminated log. Such log is a great solution for residential area, as it is both durable, good looking and warm. The facades of the house are very modern and minimalistic:
The house has a concrete basement with logs sitting on top. The logs were delivered from the factory already numbered. Putting them in place was as easy as putting pieces of legos together.
Entering this little wooden chalet, one can smell the fresh wooden log! The central space of this wooden home is dominated by the spacious kitchen / dining room.
Next photos shows the kitchen utilities of the chalet, as well as the entrance to the spacious housekeeping room which also holds the necessary heating equipment for the house.
The kitchen of the house has a minimalistic appearance with a marble counter.
There is a fair amount of space for dishes in the armoire at the back wall of the kitchen.
The kitchen and living room share the common open space. It is a great solution for a wooden house with a smaller living area. There is light coming from both sides of the house.
Living room is compact but feels very cosy. There is entrance to the main bedroom on the left, as well as to the terrace on the right side.
The living room is equipped with a fireplace which will bring warmth and light during the short and cold winter days!
This wooden home stays true to the minimalistic Scandinavian design, which both functional and stylish.
Finnish design from Iittala complements the already Scandinavian-looking milieu.
The master bedroom of this cosy chalet looks very minimalistic a the time of the visit, however, the owners say some of the furniture is yet to be delivered.
The master bedroom has access to a small storage, built in the wall. This reduces the need for a bulky armoire. The door in the above picture leads to the shower / bathroom, which can also be accessed from the housekeeping room.
The second bedroom is conveniently situated on the other side of the house.
The second toilet / bathroom is right nearby. Next to it, there is a closet for outdoor and winter clothing. It occupies a similar space.
The door in the living room leads to the small outside terrace. There is a second bigger terrace on the left, outside the sauna building.
The yard has a great view towards the river, as well as a cosy lawn.
